Day 4 — Zadar Bound (and Yara Attempts a Maritime Takeover)

Last night was rough — I couldn’t sleep at all. Either I was too excited for Zadar, or Yara snores. Yes, she’s porcelain. No, that doesn’t rule it out.

This morning we caught a 3½‑hour bus from Zagreb to Zadar. The ride was gorgeous — rolling hills, mountains, and long stretches of countryside that looked like they were painted just for us. Eventually we dropped down the backside of the mountains and into Zadar, with the Adriatic spread out like a welcome mat.

We took a leisurely walk to our next apartment, right in the middle of Old Town. After settling in, we headed out to explore — and that’s when I discovered something important: Yara has a full‑blown boat obsession.

Every five steps:

“I want that boat.”
“No, that boat.”
“You should buy that one for me.”
Then she’d spot another one and switch loyalties instantly.
Followed by some rapid‑fire Croatian that I’m pretty sure translated to “Move faster, servant.”

At one point she even tried to board a boat. A real one. She pointed at a small fishing vessel, declared “This will do,” and demanded I lift her onto it. I told her that’s called trespassing. She told me that was “a land‑dweller excuse.”

She finally settled on a 145‑foot yacht called AGRAM, pointed dramatically, and said, “Yes. That one. Acceptable.” I told her it was slightly out of budget. She pretended not to hear me.

We wrapped up the evening with a nice seafood dinner. I thought it was great. Yara took one bite and said, “Finally, some decent food,” like she’d been surviving on prison rations.

Back at the apartment, she’s perched on the windowsill like she owns Old Town, staring out at the harbor and plotting her next maritime acquisition.

Three days in Zadar. A lot to see. And apparently, a lot of boats for Yara to attempt to commandeer.
