Adventure Day 12 - Split
Split

Day 12 — Split: Rain, Planning, and One Very Restless Porcelain Diva
Today was a full washout in Split — rain from morning to night, the kind that never really stops, just changes intensity to keep you guessing. I tried three separate times to go out between the drops, but each time I made it only a few blocks before the sky opened up again. After the third attempt, I surrendered. Split: 1. Me: 0.
Yara, of course, was furious.
She spent most of the day pacing the apartment windowsill like a tiny, porcelain storm cloud.
She didn’t care about getting wet — she insisted she was “water‑resistant” — but she did demand an umbrella. A personal one. “Just my size,” she said, as if I could conjure a thimble‑sized parasol out of thin air.
With the weather keeping us inside, I turned the day into a planning session for the next legs of the trip: Hvar and Korčula. I found two great apartments, both with balconies — something I really wanted, especially after being cooped up today. I could already picture sitting outside in the evenings, watching the islands settle into dusk.
I also booked my ferry reservations, which felt like a small victory. Now the only major thing left to plan is the final stop: Dubrovnik.
I made progress there too — booked a flight from Dubrovnik back to Zagreb for the day before my return to the U.S., and reserved a hotel near the airport. One less thing to worry about.
Meanwhile, Yara continued her rain‑day meltdown:
“Why can’t we go outside?”
“Why don’t I have an umbrella?”
“Why is the sky attacking us?”
“Fix it.”
By evening, the rain still hadn’t let up, but the planning was done, the reservations were made, and the next stretch of the adventure was officially locked in.
Tomorrow, hopefully, the weather cooperates.
Yara is already threatening to “negotiate with the clouds” if it doesn’t.
